Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the forming of two battalions of Marines which resulted in the creation of the first Marine recruiting office in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS: Many Lawrence citizens and City employees have followed those first recruits and other Marines by serving their country; and
WHEREAS: Annually, former Marines host a Birthday Celebration for the United States Marine Corps, inviting all Marines and citizens of Lawrence; and
WHEREAS: On November 8, 2018, the United States Marine Corps celebrates 243 years of honor, courage, and dedication to duty.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stuart Boley, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 8, 2018 as
