Department:

Employee Relations Council

Commission Meeting Date:  November 6, 2018

Staff Contact:

Tim Reazin, Mike Hanson

Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

The Employee Relations Council (ERC) requests that the City Commission consider fully funding longevity payments for City employees for 2018.

Executive Summary:

Over the last few years, there has been little budgeted for merit increases. The ERC believes that longevity payments to employees who have been employed by the City of Lawrence for more than 5 years are a good way to recognize employees’ service and maintain employee retention.  It is important to retain employees who have been working for the City for a considerable amount of time as they possess great knowledge, skill, and dedication to the citizens of Lawrence.  Funding longevity payments may also attract new employees to work for the City of Lawrence as longevity payments show others that City of Lawrence employees are recognized for their hard work and dedication. Please consider fully funding the longevity payments under the current system in 2018, and beyond.
