Aviation Advisory Board Meeting
June 14, 2018 Minutes

MEMBERS PRESENT : Richard Haig, Bill Ackerly, Dan Born, Michael Kelly, Don Kinney
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jeff Long, Brooklyne Mosley
STAFF PRESENT: Chuck Soules
PUBLIC PRESENT: Lloyd Hetrick (Hetrick Aviation), Larry Kellogg, Karen Kellogg, Ron Renz

 

I. Call to order
Noting a quorum, chair Richard Haig called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm.

II.  Introductions were made of all in the room.

III. Review of Minutes of May 17, 2018 Meeting
One correction was made to the minutes to reflect that Richard Haig was in attendance at that meeting, as he was listed in both the "Present" and "Absent" categories.
With that one change, the minutes were moved and seconded for approval and approved unanimously.

IV. Public Comment   No comments were offered by the Public present.

V. Kansas Open Meeting Act
All Advisory Board members in attendance were trained in the details of the Kansas Open Meetings Act by Chuck Soules through a 20-page presentation.  Copies of this presentation were also given to each Board member.  Questions and discussion of KOMA followed.

VI. Update on Skydiving preparation and discussion
Procedures and processes that are being developed were discussed as well as an approximate schedule for implementation.

VII. Update on Taxiway and Apron projects
Work will start on these projects approximately July 9, 2018, and should be completed within 30 days if weather cooperates.  An interim solution to access to fuel for LifeStar during this time was discussed.

VIII. Update on Fence
Project is completed, final inspection to be done with FAA

IX.  Kid's Camp Update
The Aviation Kid's Camp that was scheduled for May 19, 2018 was cancelled due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

X. Election of Officers
Richard Haig was nominated to be Chair of the Advisory Board, moved and seconded, approved unanimously.  Michael Kelly was nominated to be Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board, moved and seconded, approved unanimously.  Don Kinney was nominated to be Secretary of the Advisory Board, moved and seconded, approved unanimously.

XI. FBO Report
Lloyd Hetrick expressed appreciation for all of the work done on the fence surrounding the airport property, and also announced that the Emergency Training Exercise Event scheduled for June 27 had been postponed.

XII.  Other Business
General discussion of Budget Expenditures, potential capital improvements, Airport Advisory Board working with the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, and the 90th Airport Anniversary.  A representative of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce may be invited to the next Aviation Advisory Board Meeting.

XIII. Next Meeting
Tentatively, the next meeting will be on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

XIV. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:11pm.

 

The next meeting is tentatively set for Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 6:30 pm in the Richardson Memorial Pilot's Lounge at the Lawrence Municipal Airport Terminal Building.
