Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 9517, repealing existing Chapter VI, Article 18, of the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas 2018 edition and amendments thereto pertaining to scrap metal dealer registration. |

Executive Summary: |
Ordinance No. 8691 was adopted on March 6, 2012 and created requirements for the municipal registration of scrap metal dealers pursuant to requirements of the Scrap Metal Theft Reduction Act.
The act was subsequently amended by the Kansas Legislature and enforcement of the act was given to the Office of the Kansas Attorney General. K.S.A. 2017 Supp. 50-6,109f prohibits any municipality from enforcing any ordinance, regulation or resolution relating to the implementation, administration and enforcement of the provisions of the scrap metal theft reduction act.
