Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

 

Authorize the City Manager to execute Change Order No. 1 with John Rohrer Contracting Company for the Kaw River Water Treatment Plant Basin Repairs Project UT1503 increasing the construction contract by $71,235.00 and extending the final completion date by 5 days.

 

Executive Summary:

The Kaw River Water Treatment Plant Basin Repairs Project UT1503 includes structural repairs on the presedimentation basin, primary settling basins, and secondary basins at the Kaw River Water Treatment Plant. Repairs to the basins include: repairing concrete spalls and delamination on basin walls and slabs, crack injection, walkway repair and replacement, and handrail repair and replacement.

 

Change Order No. 1 to the construction contract includes the following items of work, as directed by the Utilities Department. Items 1-3 are increases to original bid quantities based on actual conditions found during demolition. Item 4 is due to recent structural failure of an outside concrete staircase at the Kaw River Water Treatment Plant. This item is not part of the original construction contract.  Due to the contractor’s qualifications and current similar scope of work, this item will be constructed as part of the project.

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source):

The fiscal impact to the City is $71,235.00 for this change order, increasing the total construction cost to $1,129,761.00.  The funding for this project is included in the Department of Utilities 2017 Amended Capital Improvement Plan for project UT1503 Kaw River Water Treatment Plant Basin Repairs.
