Authorize two (2) Planning Commissioners to travel to Salina, KS to attend the 2017 Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Conference. |

Executive Summary: |
The Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association (KS APA) hosts an annual conference to provide continuing education with regional planning trends. This year’s conference lasts two days and will be in Salina, KS.
Karen Willey and Jim Carpenter have expressed interest in attending the conference this year. Karen Willey is in her first term as Planning Commissioner, which expires in May 2019 and Jim Carpenter is also in his first term as Planning Commissioner, which expires in May 2020. Mr. Carpenter will only be attending the conference for one day and will not require a hotel or overnight stay.
This conference provides education on regional planning issues and has proven to be valuable to staff and Planning Commissioners in past years. The funds are budgeted and available for 2017. The City’s Travel Policy requires travel for elected officials and appointed commission members be submitted to the City Commission for approval. |
