Approve Request for Traffic Calming on Forrest Avenue, between Barker Avenue and Learnard Avenue. |
Executive Summary: |
At the August 7, 2017 Transportation Commission Meeting, the board considered a request to install traffic calming devices on Forrest Avenue, between Barker Avenue and Learnard Avenue. Traffic data obtained during May 2017 found that the street did meet the criteria for traffic calming with more than 50% cut-through traffic during the peak hour. City staff recommended denial of the request due to low traffic volumes and traffic speed conditions below the existing speed limit on Forrest Avenue. Several neighbors living on Forrest Avenue attended the meeting voicing support for the speed limit reduction and traffic calming measures on Forrest Avenue, citing that there are no sidewalks and the narrow roadway geometry as reasons for safety concerns.
Three (3) residents spoke in favor of the request for traffic calming measures. The Transportation Commission voted (11-0) to recommend approval of the request. |
