Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

Deny request for Speed Limit Reduction and Intersection Ahead Signage on Kasold Drive, from Tam O’Shanter Drive to Clinton Parkway.

Executive Summary:

At the May 1, 2017 Transportation Commission Meeting, the board considered a request for speed limit reduction on Kasold Drive from Tam O’Shanter Drive to Clinton Parkway and a request for the installation of an “Intersection Ahead” sign. The posted speed limit at this location is 40 mph. Traffic data obtained in August of 2016 found that the 85th percentile speed on Kasold Drive is 50.4 mph.

There was one resident present which spoke in favor of the speed limit reduction and “Intersection Ahead” sign installation. The Transportation Commission voted 8-0 to recommend denial of the speed limit reduction request with Commissioner Paden abstaining from the vote. The commission’s general consensus was that reducing speed limits at this location would not change the speed of vehicles through the corridor and that road characteristics and design factors control how comfortable motorists travel at certain speeds. Commissioner Paden felt reducing speed limits could still have a positive effect.

The Transportation Commission also voted 9-0 to recommend denial of the “Intersection Ahead” sign installation request.
