Adopt on first reading Ordinance No. 9376, allowing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the public right-of-way on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the 700 block of Mississippi Street for the Old West Lawrence Neighborhood Association Block Party event.

 

Executive Summary:

The Old West Lawrence Neighborhood Association event organizers have applied for a street event temporary use of right of way permit for their 2017 event, which will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the public right of way (including the roadway) in the 700 block of Mississippi Street.

 

The event applicant has requested an ordinance authorizing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the 700 block of Mississippi Street for the event.

 

The request to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right of way has been reviewed pursuant to City of Lawrence Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 4-113 and was not found to be within 400 feet of a church or school.

 

The applicant has obtained permission from the adjacent property owners to close the street for the event. In addition, coordination with Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Police, Fire/Medical, Downtown Lawrence Inc., Lawrence Transit, Explore Lawrence, and Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods was completed with no issues being identified.

The fiscal impact to the City is $0.00. The City collected a $10.00 permit fee and a $70.00 alcohol ordinance publication fee.
