Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

 

Adopt on first reading Ordinance No. 9356, allowing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the public right-of-way on Friday, August 11, 2017 and on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. in the 100 block of E. 8th Street for the Sandbar “birthday bash” block party event.

 

Executive Summary:

The Sandbar event organizers have applied for a street event temporary use of right-of-way permit for their 2017 event, which will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 and on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. each day.

 

The event applicant has requested an ordinance authorizing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the 100 block of E. 8th Street during their event.

 

The request to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right-of-way has been reviewed pursuant to City of Lawrence Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 4-113 and was found to not be within 400 feet of a church or school.
