Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   Every day, 93 Americans are killed by gun violence and over the past five years, more than 200 Americans have sustained non-fatal firearm injuries; and

WHEREAS:   Protecting public safety in the communities they serve is the highest responsibility of City government; and

WHEREAS:   By wearing orange on June 2, Americans will raise awareness about gun violence and honor the lives stolen by gun violence.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Leslie Soden, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Friday, June 2, 2017 to be

“national gun violence awareness day”

in the City of Lawrence and encourage all citizens to support their local communities’ efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and to honor and value human lives.
