Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 9349, allowing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the public right-of-way on Friday, June 23, 2017, in the 100 Block of East 9th Street for “The Big Pig” event.

 

Approve a street event permit for “The Big Pig” event to be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the 100 Block of East 9th Street.

 

 

Executive Summary:

The Bourgeois Pig, “The Big Pig,” event organizers have applied for a street event temporary use of right-of-way permit for their 2017 event which will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017. The event will include the closure of the 100 block of East 9th Street for the event.

 

The event applicant has requested an ordinance authorizing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol in the 100 block of East 9th Street for the event.

 

The request to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right-of-way has been reviewed pursuant to City of Lawrence Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 4-113 and was found to not be within 400 feet of a church or school.

 

Event organizers have obtained signatures from the adjacent properties within the footprint of the events street closure. Event notification was also sent out to adjacent property owners advising them of the event as well as being on the May 2, 2017 commission agenda.

 

In addition, coordination with Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Police, Fire/Medical, Downtown Lawrence Inc., Lawrence Transit, Explore Lawrence, and Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods was completed with no issues being identified.

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source):

The direct cost to the City from approval of the event permit is $0.00, although this does not take into account any indirect costs that could result from the street closure. The application fee for the event permit was $10 which the applicant has paid.
