Proclamation
WHEREAS: The Star Wars movies first released
in 1977, and have shown an enduring legacy now spanning forty years; and
WHEREAS: May the Fourth is a day to
celebrate and reflect on the impact that this galaxy from far, far away has had
on generation X and later generations; and
WHEREAS: The Star Wars movies have united
generations together with universal themes and values that still resonate
today, and it is the modern archetypal blueprint that is the great mythology of
our times.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Leslie Soden, Mayor of the City
of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2017 to be
May the Fourth be with you.
