Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter
of support for the Douglas County Conservation District’s Urban Agriculture
Initiative Grant. |
|
|||
Executive Summary: |
The Douglas County Conservation District is applying for a $50,000 grant from the National Association of Conservation Districts to support urban agriculture education programs. This would benefit the City of Lawrence’s Common Ground community gardening program, and would build upon the City’s recently-passed urban agriculture ordinance. The Conservation District will offer workshops and educational materials about conservation practices for urban gardens. Also, the grant will fund a demonstration high tunnel production system and teaching garden at the Douglas County Fairgrounds to further demonstration natural resource conservation best practices. This letter of support requires no financial commitment from the City of Lawrence. The City Sustainability
Director will collaborate with Conservation District staff on grant
application and implementation. |
