Kansas Golf Association Partnerships:

As part of this construction project, EBGC has an opportunity to team with the Kansas Golf Association to be the home of KGA by providing leased office space for their staff and also providing display space in our pro shop for Kansas Golf memorabilia.

The Kansas Golf Association was organized in 1908 and is a not-for-profit organization that governs amateur golf in the state of Kansas. In addition to conducting 17 championships for amateur golfers in the state, the KGA is responsible for administering the Kansas Junior Golf Association and KGA Senior Series programs. The KGA also maintains the USGA Handicap System, performs course ratings throughout Kansas and assists in other related programs and scholarships.

This partnership will provide additional opportunities to host state-wide KGA tournaments at Eagle Bend and will also provide program support in the development of the junior golf at Eagle Bend. The junior golf program is currently underdeveloped in Lawrence; by Eagle Bend teaming with the Kansas Golf Association there will be local cooperative efforts to access programs and funding offered by the United States Golf Association to grow the game of golf in the community: http://www.usga.org/serving-the-game/health-of-the-game/community.html

The following preliminary discussion points for an agreement between the City and KGA were discussed at the November 5, 2016 board meeting for KGA. This concept was supported by their board; these items will be the starting point for a more formal agreement that will need to be drafted by the City Attorney’s office.

1. The KGA would be obligated to a long-term lease of office space within the confines of the Eagle Bend Golf Course clubhouse commencing in the fall of 2017, with renewable options thereafter at level rent.  (Note: The City desires to negotiate a minimum of a five year initial lease)

2. The KGA would pay monthly fees in the amount of $2,500 for approximately 1200 square feet of dedicate office space. The KGA space will be designed to include 3 executive offices, a large workroom that would accommodate 3 workstations, a storage room, a private bathroom, a break room with a sink and refrigerator, private access and security, “backdoor” access for event gear loading to vehicles, and segregated storage of large tournament gear (likely in the cart storage area).

3. The Kansas Golf Foundation will also be provided dedicated space to create, display and maintain the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame and the KGA will be responsible for the care and updating the displays within the Hall of Fame. There will be no charge to the KGF and the KGA for this space.

4. Both the KGA and the KGF will be afforded the opportunity to be actively involved in the process of architectural design of the space dedicated for its office and the Hall of Fame.

5. The KGA commits to conducting a minimum number of golf competitions at Eagle Bend Golf Course annually. At this time, those events would be the Kansas Four-Ball (which is also a qualifying event for the Heart of America Four-Ball) (2 days on a weekend in June), a Kansas Junior Section event (1 day), a KGA Senior Series event (1 day), the Last Chance Qualifier for the Kansas Amateur (1 day in July). Other events could include USGA qualifiers, events sanctioned by Heartland Golf (an alliance between the KGA, the Kansas City Golf Association and the Kansas Women’s Golf Association) and other KGA multi-day championships. Eagle Bend currently hosts the Kansas Four- Ball (2 Days), Kansas Junior Section (1 Day) and the Last Chance Qualifier (1 Day). This is Eagle Bend first year to host the Last Chance Qualifier and it is the second year to host the Four-Ball Championship.  Eagle Bend typically hosts a Junior Section event every year.

6. The KGA would also agree to be engaged with the staff of Eagle Bend Golf Course to plan and administer programs intended to “grow the game” and bring more patrons to the city golf facility (juniors, women, seniors).
