RE:

Proposed Drop Zone Operating Procedures/Policies

On February 7, 2017 the City Commission received a memorandum from the FAA identifying areas that could accommodate a parachute landing area. The City Commission referred the memorandum to the Aviation Advisory Board to develop operational procedures to accommodate a safe landing zone.

On February 23, 2017 the Aviation Advisory Board met and established a subcommittee to draft those procedures and minimum standards for skydiving operations.

Following is the proposed schedule for the development of the plan:

·         The subcommittee will meet a few times in March to develop a DRAFT procedure. Currently the members are gathering other airport guidelines.

·         The Draft Procedures will be provided to the FAA for review and comment in April.

·         The Draft Procedures will be provided to the Aviation Advisory Board for review and to receive any public comment.

·         When the Aviation Advisory Board receives the Draft Procedures for review and comment,  staff will also notify previously interested persons in skydiving at the Lawrence Airport.

The intent is to bring this item back to the City Commission for consideration in May.
