Approve the purchase of three (3) 2017 Chevrolet 4 X 4 9c1 Pursuit Tahoe’s from Roberts Chevrolet Buick, in the amount of $107,434.50, utilizing the Mid America Council of Public Procurement contract.

 

Executive Summary:

The Police Department is purchasing three (3) pursuit rated all-wheel drive Chevrolet Tahoe’s, which will be used for two K9 handlers and as a patrol supervisor unit.  While the department is not looking to expand the Chevrolet Tahoe to a department wide patrol vehicle, its ability to serve in these capacities is being tested.  The Tahoe has more room and has a larger suspension that the Ford Explorers, which is currently in the department’s fleet of vehicles.  Both the K9 units and the patrol supervisors need more room to store the expanding amount of equipment required for their job functions.  Additionally, when the K9 program began, used vehicles were retrofitted to accommodate the program and both vehicles are experiencing increased maintenance due to the special service type of use.

The fiscal impact to the City is $107,434.50 net decrease.  This item was in the 2017 department budget and 2017 CIP (PD1702CIP).
