Work Session: Review Final Draft of the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department comprehensive Master Plan. |
|
|||
Executive Summary: |
In February 2016, the Parks and Recreation Department contracted with GreenPlay LLC to update the department Master Plan. A draft of the plan was provided to the City Commission at a Work Session in September 2016. The recommendations and comments shared by Commissioners were brought back to the full 16-person steering committee, which was appointed by the City Commission, for further study and refinement.
Since the review at the Work Session, the committee met six additional times and incorporated Commission’s comments and recommendations into the final draft. These included river corridor development, cost recovery modelling and clarified program participation information in the document.
The committee also further incorporated the guiding principles they developed during the process to highlight how each of the plan’s objectives aligned with the survey results. They also reordered the goals within each objective to correspond with survey results.
The guiding principles are: · Promoting active lifestyles for all ages and abilities · Protecting the environment and natural areas · Ensuring affordability and sustainability of services · Enhancing community pride through events and beautification of public spaces · Building a diverse and equitable funding mix to support the needs of our growing community
The Master Plan will be utilized to update the Parks and Recreation section of Horizon 20/20 and will provide goals for the City Commission’s Strategic Plan as it relates to Parks and Recreation. |
