Award Bid No. B1642, purchase of two (2) Ford F550 Trucks and spreaders for the Streets Division of Public Works, to Laird Noller Ford, in the amount of $103,164. |

Executive Summary: |
The replacement of units 366 and 337 was included in the 2017 CIP budget. These units are undersized to adequately fulfill the needs of the Streets Division. Replacing one-ton vehicles with Class 5 trucks allows the maneuverability required for snow operations and adds the safety of using an appropriately sized vehicle to handle load capabilities. These units provide year round operational support to the Streets Division, which includes towing trailers, snow operations, hauling materials, and personnel transportation.
Central Maintenance solicited bids to replace these units with Class 5 trucks, material spreaders, and plow packages. On December 13, 2016 bids were received for two (2) – Class 5 trucks for the Street Division.
During the CIP process, equipment replacement for these units was estimated at $105,000 each (excluding trade-in values), based on replacement trucks in the same configuration. Staff modified the configuration though, based on recent equipment evaluation. The replacement trucks will use an electric spreader, which allowed the elimination of the central hydraulic system on these trucks, which then allowed specification of a gasoline engine. This alternative is expected to fulfill the Division’s needs while providing cost savings over time. |

The cost to purchase both units is $103,164 total, including the $22,000 trade-in value. Replacement of unit 366 is budgeted in the 2017 Stormwater Fund and replacement of unit 337 is budgeted in the Special Gas Tax Fund. |
