I.       Meeting called to order by Chair Hack

 

II.      Approval of September 13th 2016 minutes by Caldwell, and seconded by Clayton. 

 

III.     Concerns

Pearson responded to a concern from a citizen inquiring about tournaments being held on weekends at Eagle Bend Golf Course.  Shaw indicated a letter will be composed and given to the board to review and then sent to the citizen.    

 

Chambers shared excitement on the new water fountain located on the South end of Burroughs Creek Trail.  A concerned citizen contacted Chambers inquiring about the trails at Rock Chalk Park and which ones were to be paved.  Chambers clarified with staff that only the red connector trail will be paved.    

 

IV.      Gymnastic program LPRD --- Jalon Hutchens

Hutchens presented a summary of the gymnastic programs.  There are approximately 500 participants enrolled monthly in the gymnastics program at Sports Pavilion Lawrence and East Lawrence Center.  Thus far in 2016, the gymnastics program has produced approximately $300,000 in revenue.              

 

V.       P & R Master Plan --- update

Shaw reported the current draft of the Master Plan with changes has been forwarded to GreenPlay LLC for their review and final edits.  Early December is the goal to have it sent to the commission for final approval.

 

VIII.   Staff reports

 

i.         Recreation/ Expenses-Revenue/2016 Financial Updates

Shaw presented the October report.  Recreation revenue across the board looks good.  Total revenue over expenses is $440,312.  Golf Course is looking good also.  Total revenue over expenses is $53,537.      

    

ii.         Parks/Golf Course/Projects Report/2016 financial updates

No update given.

       

iii.        Marketing Report

Steinbrock reported October enrollment numbers are above where we were at this time last year, and we narrowed the gap to 4 percent when comparing enrollments from Jan. 1- Oct. 31 to last year for the same time period.    Winter/Spring Activity Guide will be available on Sunday, Nov. 27.   Also gearing up for our annual toy drive.  We will be working together with 9th Street Missionary Baptist Church, who has a program in coordination with the county jail.  Incarcerated inmates share a toy with their children.  They also team up with the Foster Care program. 

 

X.        Other – Herndon on behalf of the Live Well Lawrence Coalition is requesting from Parks and Recreation to discuss and possibly advocate the Loop logo they have been working on for the past year and a half into some capacity within the City.  Shaw indicated the item will be placed on the December agenda to be discussed.
