RE:

Relocation of Fire Station No. 1 during construction

After an exhaustive search, I recommend the placement of temporary housing for the fire engine and staffing of four (4) to remain at the 8th Street/Kentucky Street location in a trailer to be located on 8th Street utilizing the apparatus bay when available for the fire apparatus.  The We would locate the ambulance and crew of two would be located to  the original Fire Station No. 2 located at 19th Street and Massachusetts Street.

This placement is the most cost effective and virtually maintains estimated response times to our current Standard of Cover benchmarks.

This proposal assumes (see attached rendering):

·         Closing the north side parking and east bound traffic lane of 8th Street between Kentucky Street and Vermont Street for project duration (8 to 12 months), leaving two-way traffic during the project duration.

·         Leaves enough room for the engine to pull onto 8th Street before fenced enclosure to allow for manual gate operation without backing up traffic on Vermont Street.

·         Anticipates one portable temporary living unit (trailer) for four (4) personnel.  Hard utility connections would be provided to existing utilities.

·         Assumes medic unit will be relocated to the original Station No. 2 at 19th Street and Massachusetts Street for project duration.

·         Provides room for department provided Conex box for gear storage during construction.

·         Assumes staff parking at Station No. 1 will continue to occur at the parking garage.
