Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

 

WHEREAS:   Alzheimer’s is a disease that is accompanied by symptoms of memory loss called dementia.  Nearly six million adults in the United States suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and a new sufferer is diagnosed every seven seconds; and

                            

WHEREAS:   The dementia related symptoms that accompany diseases such as Alzheimer’s may include loss of mental function in areas such as: language, memory, visual, spatial abilities and judgment.

 

There is no existing cure for Alzheimer’s and dementia but promising studies focusing on lifestyle treatments are being led by researchers in our region. 

 

Bridge Haven Memory Care in Lawrence, Kansas focuses on caring for individuals with dementia in four small, less confusing home-style settings.  Currently, the fifth Bridge Haven home is being completed.  We continue to advocate for better treatments and for a cure; and’

 

WHEREAS:   The month of November has been proclaimed as National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a month to recognize the need for more support for those with the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of November 2016

 

“ALZHEIMERS AWARENESS MONTH”

 

in Lawrence and urge all citizens to extend their support for those struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia and their loved ones.
