Police Department staff requests approval to purchase VMware vSphere 6 Upgrade and two PowerEdge R430 Servers from Eagle Software Inc. through the State of Kansas Contract at the attached quote cost of $22,188.94. Police Department staff also requests approval to purchase Veeam Availability Suite Enterprise Upgrade from SHI through the State of Kansas Contract at the attached quote cost of $7,686.00. |

Executive Summary: |
The Police Department’s network perimeter (DMZ) contains Internet facing services including e-mail, authentication, and web servers. The purpose of this network is to ensure those services have restricted access to the internal network. Operating in this fashion also complies with KCJIS policy though the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The resource requirements of the current DMZ has surpassed the implemented infrastructure. There are multiple disparate systems that lack modern features and resources needed to operate public facing department services at an enterprise capacity. They also lack support contracts for hardware failures or software maintenance to stay up to date on bugs and vulnerabilities.
The solution to the department’s DMZ needs is to upgrade to modern software and hardware packages. Three vendors that include the needed features are VMware, Dell, and Veeam. The department computing infrastructure is heavily virtualized to reduce server total cost of ownership. Utilizing the aforementioned vendors will integrate with existing systems and these products are designed to cater to our enterprise. In comparison to other vendors, the long term support is more attractive. |

The fiscal impact to the City is $29,874.94. This item was in the 2016 department line item to address equipment needs. Future renewals of the maintenance agreements will be made out of the Department’s software maintenance budget. |
