Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: There is no day in recent history more terrifying than September 11, 2001 and no day in history that better exemplifies the dangers faced and sacrifices made by first responders; and
WHEREAS: September 11, 2001 was a day that changed our Nation forever; it was a day in which over 400 fire and medical and law enforcement personnel made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS: There are men and women in our community who on a daily basis risk their lives for the lives of others; selfless men and women who run towards danger as we run for safety; and
WHEREAS: The anniversary of 9/11 should serve as a reminder of the risks these men and women take every day for our community and an appropriate time to acknowledge their hard work and dedication;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of September 11-17, 2016 as
in the City of Lawrence. During this week, we ask our community to take a moment to show their appreciation for the men and women of the Lawrence Police Department, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Kansas Office of Public Safety, and the Kansas Highway Patrol, as well as, Douglas County Emergency Communications operators who provide the key link between the citizen in an emergency situation and the first responders.
