City received $40,000 Grant for Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs

The City of Lawrence and the Lawrence Douglas County Health Department have been awarded a $40,000 grant by the National League of Cities (NLC) as part of their 2016-2017 Cities Combating Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs (CHAMPS) technical assistance and grant initiative. Through this initiative, NLC’s Institute for Youth, Education and Families and the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), in partnership with state and local anti-hunger organizations, will provide technical assistance to help develop and implement project plans to expand access to the Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs.  The Lawrence Douglas County Health Department will serve as the lead agency and will administer the grant.    

 

July 2016 Communications Metrics

Each month, the Communications staff provides an update of current communications initiatives.  In July website users remained generally the same with pageviews down slightly (201,032 pages viewed).  Social media continues to be an increasing medium for communications.  Facebook followers were up by 219 and Twitter followers grew by 256.  Email communications lists remain relatively flat. The greatest focus for the communications staff at the present time is the launch of a new website. 

 

Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas Letter of Appreciation

The City of Lawrence Police Department sent officers to assist in Kansas City, Kansas so officers there could attend the funeral of their fallen comrade, Capt. Robert Melton.  Mark Holland, Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas sent a letter of thanks to Mayor Amyx.
