RE: |
Traffic Safety Commission, Traffic Calming, 2300 block Vermont Street |
Background
At the May 2, 2016 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request for TRAFFIC CALMING in the 2300 block of Vermont Street (see attached). Vermont Street is classified as a “local” street in a residential area with a speed limit of 30mph, as established by state law. Traffic data obtained during September and November 2015 found the 85th percentile speed of traffic to be approximately 33.4mph, the 24-hour volume of traffic to be approximately 415, and cut-through traffic comprised approximately 33.3% of the traffic during the peak hour of the day. Therefore, the 2300 block of Vermont Street does not appear to meet the minimum criteria for consideration of traffic calming.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no one from the public addressed the Commission about this item. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 8-0, recommended denying the request for TRAFFIC CALMING in the 2300 block of Vermont Street.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission to deny the request for TRAFFIC CALMING in the 2300 block of Vermont Street.
