RE:

Live on Mass.: Special Event Permit SE-16-00274

Description

Live on Mass. at 1020 Massachusetts St., Friday, August 19, 2016.  Application submitted by Mike Logan, for The Granada, LLC, property owner of record.

The applicant is proposing a free live concert in the open space to the south and in front of their building along Massachusetts St.

As a part of the review process for  Special Event permits, Type 5 special events (public events intended primarily for entertainment or amusements, such as concerts or festivals) require City Commission approval.  This special event will include the closure of a portion of sidewalk along the east side of Massachusetts Street.  The applicant has also submitted the appropriate Use of Right-of-Way permit application for the sidewalk closure through the Public Works Department which has also been forwarded for inclusion on the same City Commission meeting agenda.

The hours of the event will be 6:30pm to 12:00am with sidewalk closure to take place before the event.  Signage will be posted at the 10th and 11th Street intersections to warn pedestrians of the closed sidewalk.  No parking spaces will be encumbered for the event.  Parking will still be available in the angled spaces along Massachusetts St. and event information will inform patrons of the nearby parking garages.

The special event permit meets all of the requirements set forth in 6-1501 of the City Code for Temporary Special Events.

Action

Staff recommends the City Commission approve Special Event Permit SE-16-00274 for Live on Mass. at 1020 Massachusetts St. on August 19, 2016 in conjunction with the Use of Right-of-Way permit approval if appropriate.
