Background
Since March 1977, the City of Lawrence has teamed with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism (KDWPT) to provide a public access point to the Kansas River at the 8th and Oak Street Boat Ramp.
On April 26, 2016, the City Commission awarded the Public Works Department’s 2016 Microsurfacing, Patch, Overlay and Concrete Maintenance Program, to the low bidder, Sunflower Paving, Inc. (City Bid # B1612)
Project Description
Recently Parks & Recreation Department staff has been working with KDWPT staff to develop a plan to improve the access road and parking at the 8th & Oak Boat Ramp. KDWPT has available funding to reimburse the City the bid price of $24,100 to mill and overlay the access road, if the City will use the millings from the road project to improve the parking at the ramp.
Staff Recommendation
Use the City Park Memorial Fund to fund a $24,100 mill and overlay project at the 8th and Oak Boat Ramp, using a bid provided by Sunflower Paving Inc. Once work is completed, KDWPT will issue a check to the City to reimburse this fund.
Action
Authorize the Parks and Recreation Department to use the City Park Memorial Fund to fund a $24,100 mill and overlay project at the 8th and Oak Boat Ramp, using the unit price bid provided by Sunflower Paving Inc. Once work is completed the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will issue a check to the City to reimburse this expenditure.
