RE: |
Project No. PW1608 - West Campus Road Storm Sewer Improvements |
Project History & Details
The section of West Campus Road immediately north of the Chi Omega Fountain and south of Memorial Drive (see attached map) historically has experienced pavement settlement problems due to inadequate drainage from both surface and ground water. In an effort to remedy the existing drainage problems, the University of Kansas included this section of road as a bid alternate with its project to reconstruct Memorial Drive for the summer of 2016. The improvements include the construction of seven new curb inlets and the corresponding connecting storm sewer pipe. Maintenance of this section of roadway is evenly divided between the City of Lawrence and the University of Kansas. The University has formally requested a cost share partnership with the City to complete these improvements with the execution of a Memorandum of Agreement. The overall total cost of the alternate bid to reconstruct West Campus Road was $191,450.00. The storm sewer portion of the alternate bid was $119,450.00. It should be noted that the Memorandum of Agreement caps the City’s cost share at $90,000.00. The project is scheduled for construction between May 16, 2016 and August 12, 2016. Attached is a map showing the proposed detour route during construction.
Project Funding
The construction of the storm sewer infrastructure along West Campus Road as outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement will be funded by the Stormwater Utility Fund.
Action Request
Authorize the City Manager to sign the Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Kansas and the City of Lawrence not to exceed $90,000 for storm sewer improvements along West Campus Road (Project No. PW1608).
