RE:	Purchase of one (1) EE Rated Electric Forklift

Background

Public Works Solid Waste HHW program is replacing a 1998 forklift with a smaller unit for increased operational efficiency at its new location. In the operational over view, staff determined that a smaller footprint forklift was needed to increase operations and increase safety concerns with new facility spacing. EE rated equipment is electrically powered and has all motors and electrical elements enclosed. This level of safety equipment is required in areas where flammable materials are stored in sealed containers. Bids were requested under the City’s purchasing policy.  Bids include the trade of unit #944, a 1998 Nissan forklift.

Solid Waste HHW received only one bid following the City’s purchasing policy.

Staff Recommendation

Solid Waste and Central Maintenance staff recommends the bid from Sellers Equipment Co., less trade for unit #944, for $25,540.00.

Funding

Funding is from Solid Waste Division accounts. A portion of the forklift is funded through a grant from KDHE.

Action

Authorize the Solid Waste Division to purchase one (1) EE Rated Electric Forklift from Sellers Equipment Co. in the net amount of $25,540.00
