RE: |
Battalion Command Vehicle Unit #675 |
Background
Unit #675 has been diagnosed by the Central Maintenance Garage to have a bad transmission. This unit is a Battalion Command reserve unit. The repair estimate costs exceed $2600. This unit has 96,396 miles and is 10 years in age. It has met the City’s criteria for replacement. This vehicle would expect to have an auction value of $3000, under the City’s current disposal methods, in full operating condition. Currently the 2016 budgeted equipment reserve replacement identified vehicles have all been bid with the exception of one fire utility gator, unit #698. Without the replacement of the last unit in the identified list, the equipment reserve budgeted for 2016 was $501,000 and actual costs are $460,000. The current front line Battalion command unit could be transitioned into a reserve status and unit #675 can then be replaced, with the remaining funds in equipment reserve, and put into a new frontline status.
Staff Recommendation
Central Maintenance Garage staff and Fire and Medical staff recommend the use of the remaining budgeted funding to replace unit #675 for a front line replacement Battalion Command vehicle and remove the current front line vehicle to reserve status.
Funding
Funding for the replacement would utilize the deferred replacement of unit #698 and the remaining balance of the allotted equipment reserve budgeted for 2016 replacements.
Action
Authorize Central Maintenance and Fire and Medical to bid a replacement for unit #675 utilizing the remanding funding budgeted in the 2016 equipment reserve.
