RE:

Purchase of two John Deere Z950M Commercial Ztrak Mowers and one Wiedenmann Terra Spike XF6 Aerator

Background

Unit 5322, a 2007 John Deere 1445 Outfront Mower and Unit 5980, a 1999 John Deere Aercore have been identified as units at the end of their useable life. These units have met the city’s replacement criteria. The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep.

Staff Recommendation

Central Maintenance Garage and Parks and Recreation staff recommend the purchase of two John Deere Z950M Commercial Ztrak Mowers to replace unit 5322. This is an attempt to control escalating diesel powered mower prices by purchasing two smaller gasoline powered mowers to replace one of the higher priced diesel mowers. If these mowers prove to be reliable, this purchasing option may be used in the future on more of the City owned mowing fleet. Staff also recommends a one-for-one purchase of a Wiedenmann Terra Spike XF6 Aerator to replace unit 5980.

Funding

This purchase will be using pricing from a cooperative purchasing agreement with the State of Kansas (Piggy-Back 4425-5) which would result in a total purchase of $43,945.28. This price includes the trade-in of two units 5322 and 5980. Funds are available for this purchase in the 216 Special Recreation Fund.

Action

Authorize the Parks and Recreation Department to purchase two (2) John Deere Z950M Commercial Ztrak Mowers and one Wiedenmann Terra Spike XF6 Aerator for $43,945.28 from Deere & Company.
