Background
8th Street from Kentucky Street to Tennessee Street had been prioritized in 2014 and 2015 maintenance years as a significant street rehabilitation and reconstruction location but deferred due to other conflicts such as the Utilities Department 8th Street waterline project that extended to Tennessee Street. This waterline rehab project is now complete.
Project Description and Details
The proposed reconstruction would include full pavement removal and salvage of brick pavers, trolley tracks, and stone curb. It will be replaced with an 8” concrete dowel-jointed pavement on a 6” compacted rock base. New concrete curb and gutter will be installed including ADA concrete access ramps.
The 8th Street block will remain closed throughout the duration of the project between Kentucky Street and Tennessee Street. The work is anticipated to start in early April and completed by May 20, 2016, a week prior to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and pool opening.
This project has been reviewed and approved by Historic Resources Commission.
Project Funding
The pavement maintenance program is typically funded from several sources. Funding for the program was approved in August, 2015 and adopted in the 2016 City Budget. This project was included in the 2016 Pavement Maintenance Program for reconstruction to be paid from the storm water and gas tax fund.
