Project PW1507 6th & Champion Set Bid Date |
Project Description
The intersection of 6th Street and Champion Lane in northwest Lawrence has been identified for signal improvements prior to an increase in development in the area. Under existing conditions, a traffic signal is already warranted at this location. The commercial area on the south side of the intersection is already developed. The north side of the intersection is currently partially undeveloped. Sprouts Grocery store is located on the northwest corner of the intersection and more development will occur on the north side of 6th Street, further increasing the need for a traffic signal at the 6th Street and Champion Lane intersection (see attached map).
The scope of the project is for the installation of a traffic signal, geometric improvements on the south approach to accommodate a turn lane, and sidewalk improvements. Crosswalk pavement markings will be installed on 6th Street for north/south pedestrian traffic.
Project Status
Plans are complete and the project is ready for bid. Construction will occur this summer as the traffic signal poles have a 2 to 3 month lead time. Staff will meet with the adjacent businesses to accommodate traffic control during construction.
Project Funding
The estimated total cost of this project is $400,000 funded from an existing benefit district and KDOT reimbursing $250,000 for construction costs.
