Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   The City of Lawrence recognizes the value and importance of activities, discussions, and movements focused on social justice; and

 

WHEREAS:   The KU Professionals for Inclusion and Social Justice (ISJ), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kansas, Oread Friends Meeting, The Sunrise Project, Total Equality Alliance at Lawrence High School, Sun Cedar, Peace Mennonite Church, and Lawrence Public Library come together to support each organization’s social justice-focused activities throughout the week, including the See/Saw Festival Research Conference and Film Festival; and

 

WHEREAS:   The See/Saw Festival’s theme for 2016 is “On The Brink: Borders, Boundaries and Becoming” and focuses on the concept of pushing and navigating “borders”; and

 

WHEREAS:   All the organizations associated with the See/Saw Festival work towards social justice, equity, and inclusion.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim March 1 – 8, 2016 as

 

“social justice week”
