RE:	Purchase of folding mower for airport maintenance.

Background

As part of airport maintenance, staff utilize component #3384, a 2009 John Deere flex wing mower.  This unit has continuous use in the spring, summer, and fall mowing seasons.  This unit has started accumulating high costs and is in need of major hinge repairs.  As part of a scheduled replacement cycle and utilizing Central Maintenance evaluation, this unit has been deemed at the end of its cost effective lifespan within airport operations.  Central Maintenance has exercised pricing from the NJPA (National Joint Powers Alliance) cooperative purchasing contract and the Kansas State contract.  The NJPA contract provides the lowest pricing for a comparable unit. The City is a NJPA member.

Staff Recommendation

Central Maintenance and Facility Division / Airport Staff recommend the replacement of unit #3384 with a Land Pride 15 foot folding mower utilizing the NJPA cooperative purchasing contract with local vendor McConnell Machinery for $15,474.92.

Funding

Utilization of the equipment reserve fund has been identified for funding source – 205-3-3030-6014.

Action

Approve the purchase of a 2016 Land Pride RC5615-2 15 foot flex wing mower utilizing the NJPA (National Joint Powers Alliance) cooperative purchasing contract for $15,474.92.  Funding was approved in the 2016 budget process and will utilize the equipment reserve account - 205-3-3030-6014.
