Affordable Housing Advisory Board Meeting Schedule

The Affordable Housing Advisory Board will meet on the second Monday of each month.  The 2016 meeting dates are shown below.  Meetings will begin at 11:00 am and will be held in the City Commission Room at City Hall.  The public is invited to attend.

Surface Transportation Funding

A new long-term surface transportation authorization called Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act was signed in to law on December 4, 2015. The attached memo explains how it will impact local governments and the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

 

2015 Common Ground Program Highlights

The Common Ground Program is a community gardening and urban agriculture program created by the City of Lawrence in 2012.  See attached for 2015 program highlights.

 

Planning & Development Services Monthly Project Report

The attached provides an update on several city of Lawrence projects in process in the Planning and Development Services Department.

 

Arts & Economic Prosperity 5

Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 is a national study measuring the economic impact of nonprofit arts and culture organizations and their audiences.  Lawrence and Douglas County will be included with nearly 300 other study partners across all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and will collect detailed financial data about our local nonprofit arts and culture organizations such as our theater and dance companies, museums, festivals, and arts education organizations. The study will be conducted by Americans for the Arts with local help from the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission and Lawrence/Douglas County art & culture non-profits and the arts community.  More information can be found here.

 

Update on Skydiving/Parachuting activities at Lawrence Municipal Airport

On November 10, 2015 the City Commission directed staff to request a safety study of the Lawrence Municipal Airport, to be completed for skydiving / parachuting activities.  The Wichita FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) of the FAA was requested to complete this study.  Attached is a copy of the letter officially requesting the study from Jim Johnson, Manager, Central Region, Airports Division of the FAA to the Wichita FSDO.

 

At this time the City has not received any indication of the time the study will take to complete.
