The Outreach Team has helped house 30 individuals and 3 families obtain housing this quarter as well as helped 2 households avoid eviction.
This quarter saw an increase in contacts than the previous quarter, which is typical as the weather gets warmer, the shelter is full and more homeless are outside.
Bert Nash is increasing its collaboration with Lawrence Community Shelter. There has been an increase in the number of homeless people with a mental illness over the past year. We will designate one homeless outreach worker at LCS to help identify individuals with a mental illness needing treatment in an attempt to get them engaged with services proactively.
The team is aware of a possible decrease in funding for the program. This will reduce the flexible spending money that is used to assist individuals in obtaining birth certificates and identification needed for employment and applying for benefits. This flex fund is also used to assist with rental applications, deposits and first month’s rent.
