Background

Public Works Solid Waste Division 2016 replacement schedule recognized the need to replace one unit that has been deemed at the end of their usable life.  Unit #497, a 2001 Ford F650 roll off truck, has met the city’s criteria for replacement.  The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, mileage, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep.  Bids were requested under the City’s purchasing policy.

Solid Waste Division received the following Bids for one (1) small container truck less trade for unit #497.

Staff Recommendation

Solid Waste staff recommends the bid from Key Equipment for $93,265.76.  The Solid Waste Division currently has several of these bodies and is happy with their performance. Solid Waste staff has operational concerns with the body bid by Elliott Equipment.  Staff is concern that the single pivoting system and the limited hook height will cause operational issues on uneven surfaces.

 

Funding

Funding was approved in the 2016 budget process.

 

Action

Authorize the Solid Waste Division to purchase one (1) small container truck from Key Equipment for the net amount of $93,265.76.
