RE:

Extension of Advisory Board Member Term

The Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) is celebrating its 15th year.  During this time, the Transit system has added more routes, coordinated with KU Transit, and added a night line service.  Bike racks were added to all buses, including KU buses and new bus pass sales outlets have been added to Dillons, Hy-Vee, and The Merc.  Most importantly, ridership has increased to 1.2 million riders per year….a 150% increase since 2008.

The term of PTAC member Mark Hurt is set to expire 12/31/15.  Mr. Hurt has completed two consecutive terms, which the by-laws state terms are limited to two consecutive terms.  However, with a referendum being in the near future, it would be beneficial to have Mr. Hurt’s expertise and experience on the committee.

Staff requests and recommends that the Mayor and City Commission consider extending Mr. Hurt to a third term December 31, 2018 for his expertise and experience on the committee and transit in general.
