RE: |
Traffic Safety Commission, Stop Sign on southbound Indiana at Sunflower; or, Indiana One-Way northbound from Sunflower to Sunnyside |
Background
At the November 2, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish a STOP sign on southbound Indiana Street at Sunflower Road; or, to establish Indiana Street as a ONE-WAY street northbound from Sunflower Road to Sunnyside Avenue. There is currently no traffic control at the intersection; the predominant flow of traffic is northbound on Indiana onto Sunflower, and, southbound on Sunflower onto Indiana. There have not been any reported crashes at the intersection during the past three (3) years.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, two (2) area residents addressed the Commission in opposition to the request. It was noted that a STOP sign could cause confusion to motorists and a ONE-WAY street would make turns difficult and navigating the street during inclement weather would be almost impossible. In addition, an email from an adjacent resident indicated opposition to a ONE-WAY street. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 7-0, recommended denying the request to establish a STOP sign on southbound Indiana Street at Sunflower Road; or, to establish Indiana Street as a ONE-WAY Street northbound, between Sunflower Road and Sunnyside Avenue.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission to deny the request to establish a STOP sign on southbound Indiana Street at Sunflower Road; or, to establish Indiana Street as a ONE-WAY Street northbound, between Sunflower Road and Sunnyside Avenue.
