RE:	Peaslee Technical Training Center: Continuation of assistance request for City’s proportional share of 2015 property taxes

The City received a request on November 25, 2015 from The Chamber, Lawrence, Kansas for a partial reimbursement of the City’s proportional share of the 2015 property taxes on the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center.  This amount of reimbursement requested is $11,776.30.

The current request is a continuation of a request that was considered by the City Commission on March 24, 2015.  At that time, the City Commission voted unanimously to authorize assistance for the project, including:

• A refund of up to $15,533.20, which represents the City’s proportional share of 2014 real estate taxes on the property and improvements, excluding the approximately 15,000 square feet of building leased to Hiper Real Estate Holdings, L.L.C.
• A one-time grant of $500,000 for renovations and infrastructure development for the training center.
• A $143,294.50 loan for renovations of office space to be leased to the Lawrence Workforce Center
• Reimbursement of certain building permit fees and waiver of the IRB application fee.

The Chamber has recently requested and received authorization from the County for the County’s proportional share of the 2015 property taxes on the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center.

Action Requested

Authorize a partial reimbursement of $11,776.30 for the City’s share of 2015 Property Taxes on the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center.
