RE: |
Traffic Safety Commission, No Parking at Riverview Road & Settlers Drive |
Background
At the October 5, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING along the north and east sides of the curve from Riverview Road to Settlers Drive. Parking is currently prohibited along the inside of the (south and west sides) for a distance of 140 feet west and south of the intersection. There have not been any reported crashes at the intersection during the past three (3) years.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, three (3) area residents addressed the Commission in support of the request and one (1) adjacent resident addressed the Commission in opposition to the request. It was noted that the approach to the curve is downhill in both directions, it is slick in the winter, and several mailboxes have been hit; however, it was also noted that there isn’t much traffic, just residents, and that this restriction would eliminate all adjacent parking for four (4) homes. Two Commissioners indicated that traffic speeds may increase if parking is removed. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 8-0, recommended denying the request to establish NO PARKING along the north and east sides of the curve from Riverview Road to Settlers Drive.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission to deny the request to establish NO PARKING along the north and east sides of the curve from Riverview Road to Settlers Drive.
