RE:

Purchase Tennant S30 parking garage sweeper

Background

The 2016 budget process identified the need to replace unit 922 (1997 garage sweeper).  This is a parking garage sweeper that has been in service from 1997.  This sweeper currently is responsible for the New Hampshire, Vermont, and Riverfront parking structures. The current sweeper has increasingly become less reliable as it ages.  This unit also has some difficulty with some debris collection due to its design.  Evaluation of sweeper options by public works staff concluded that a similar updated version would be sufficient and economical.  Upgrades have made newer units more efficient and functional to the end user.  The new unit will have reduced exposer for the operator from dust and debris and include a better footprint for steering control when traveling from garages.  This unit has a climate controlled cab which extends the number of months each year the unit can be used. Tennant Corporation offers a contract pricing based on a General Services Administration contract. The existing sweeper, due to age and condition, will be sold as surplus property and taken out of service.

Staff Recommendation

The Facility Maintenance and Central Maintenance Divisions recommend the purchase of a replacement parking garage sweeper based off of the current General Services Administration (GSA) contract. The replacement unit will add efficiencies and increase safety. A purchase order will not be issued until January of 2016.

Action

Approve the purchase of a Tennant S30 parking garage sweeper identified in the 2016 budget process from Tennant Corporation for $53,978.48 utilizing the GSA contract.
