RE: |
Resolution in Support of the Bethel Estates of Lawrence Low Income Housing Tax Credit Project |
Background:
Wheatland Investments, LLC, of Olathe, Kansas, is applying to the Kansas Housing Resource Corporation (KHRC) for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program to construct affordable senior rental housing to be located at 25th Terrace and O’Connell Road, commonly known as 2101 Exchange Court. The proposed housing development will ultimately contain 90 independent living facilities targeted to tenants who are older ambulatory adults age 55 and older. This project will be constructed in phases.
The tax credits will be used to finance the new construction of the facility which will consist of one and two bedroom units with the following amenities: washers/dryers hookups and updated appliances, individual porch areas with flower beds, community events including pot lucks, special events, and common area facilities for birthday parties and other celebrations
KHRC is required to notify the chief executive officer of the local jurisdiction where the proposed development is located. For their records, a resolution from the local government stating their approval and support for all such proposed developments using tax credits is also required.
Staff/Advisory Board Recommendation:
The Community Development Advisory Committee met on January 8, 2015 to consider this proposal and voted unanimously to recommend approval of the resolution of support to accompany the Wheatland Investments, LLC tax credit application.
Action:
Adopt Resolution No. 7102, approving conditionally an application for low income housing tax credits from the State of Kansas for Bethel Estates of Lawrence, a proposed senior housing development, located at 25th Terrace and O’Connell Road.
The City Clerk will have the Resolution ready for the Mayor's signature. If you have further questions, please let me know.
