Please place the following item on the consent agenda for the City Commission to consider at its March 11, 2014 meeting:

 

Background

Public Works requested bids to replace the articulated wheel loader used to load salt and sand into dump trucks during snow events and to load and stock construction materials the remainder of the year. The wheel loader being replaced was purchased three (3) years ago and the dealer offered a guaranteed buy back after three years of $107,500.

 

This unit will be out of warranty in June 2014. Replacing now reduces operating and maintenance costs on this type of equipment. Under the warranty plan the City is responsible for normal maintenance items such as damaged tires, lubrication, oil and filter changes. All other repairs are covered by the manufacturer.

 

Recommendations

Central Maintenance Garage staff recommends the low bid from Murphy Tractor.
