She has a degree from Kansas State in dietetics and is working toward her registered dietitian license. Stephen Mason will be working for us this summer also. He is from the Lawrence area and a recent graduate of Emporia State. He has selected to intern with the Adult Sports and Recreation Instruction divisions this summer.
V. Rock Chalk Park/Recreation Center -- updates Shaw reported the approval to proceed with the development and signing of the construction contract with Gene Fritzel Construction at Rock Chalk Park/Recreation Center has been given by the City Commission.
VI. Mud Creek boat ramp issues Shaw reported the Mud Creek channel has changed considerably over the past few years. The water level is lower and the banks have eroded causing trees to fall in and making it impossible for boats to maneuver through the creek. Contact has been made with the Corp. if nothing can be determined we may have to recommend that the boat ramp be closed.
VII. Former Farmland Property Landscape Plan Hecker presented a landscape master plan that he was been working on with Bartlett & West for the past few months. Phases will be completed as the project moves along to include signs, berms in the entrance, etc.
VIII. Tennis court updates Shaw reported the tennis courts for Rock Chalk Park are currently being discussed. The lighting of the tennis courts located at Lawrence High School was on the City Commission agenda. The Lawrence Tennis Association has been pursuing lights being installed for those courts. The issue has been dismissed by the City Commission. Tennis courts at Rock Chalk Park will be installed with lights.
