RE:

Santa Fe Station Project Budget

As you are aware, the City of Lawrence has been awarded the grant to preserve the Santa Fe Station.  The City Commission will need to formally accept the grant.  The total project amount is $1,533,086, with a grant award of $1,266,468.99, representing 80% of the site and building construction. The City will be responsible for 20% of these costs plus 100% of some costs, such as design and construction bidding services, which are ineligible grant costs.  The City was fortunate to receive an earlier grant to design the building improvements and construction-ready plans are complete.   However, the survey work for the site was not completed and site work was not taken to a final construction-ready design stage.  The City will need to decide to complete the survey and site design work in-house, or contract for those services. Those services if completed by a consultant are estimated to cost approximately $37,000.

The City’s total match required would be either approximately $312,000 if the City completed the survey and design work in-house, or approximately $350,000 if the City contracted for those surveying and design services.  I do want to mention that these costs don’t include any costs that the City may incur as a result of the process to acquire the building and land lease (such as environmental investigations, etc.) or the ongoing maintenance and operational costs associated with the building.

The table below summaries the various categorized expenses associated with the project, as you requested.
