RE: |
Project PW1212 – 9th Street – Tennessee Street to Kentucky Street Mill & Overlay, Pavement Marking, Traffic Signal Improvements Construction Engineering and Inspection Reimbursement Agreement
|
Project History
The 9th Street project will provide a new center turn lane and will include bike lanes on 9th Street between Tennessee and Kentucky Streets. The center turn lane will improve traffic flow through the corridor as no thru lanes will be delayed from vehicles making left turns. Additional work includes new traffic signals, pavement mill and overlay, storm sewer improvements and two recessed parking spaces on the south side of 9th Street. The plans and KDOT agreement were approved by the City Commission on February 26, 2013.
Project Funding
The project was approved under KDOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program with funding (90% state/10% city) up to a maximum of $175,000. KDOT let the project on April 17th and the low bidder was Sunflower Paving in the amount of $230,996. The city is responsible for the balance plus contingencies in the amount of $67,545.80 as specified in the Authority to Award contract approved by the City Commission on May 14, 2013. Although the construction cost exceeds the KDOT funds allocated, KDOT may decide to reimburse the city for construction engineering and inspection services if funds are available in their program. The estimated amount of reimbursement is $19,303.25. The city/state agreement will need to be signed for the city to receive reimbursement.
