Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   Lawrence Memorial Hospital has served the City of Lawrence and surrounding communities well since 1921 and in fulfilling its mission, adopted a Vision Statement to “Become the Best Community Hospital” in pursuit of excellence for those it serves; and

WHEREAS:   Lawrence Memorial Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters; and was recognized in the February 25, 2013 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine; and

WHEREAS:   The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates hospital performance in ten areas:  mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, and pneumonia; and

WHEREAS:   This prestigious annual award for twenty years has been using objective research and independent public data that reflect highly effective performance over a three to five year period to recognize the best hospitals in the United States; and

WHEREAS:   To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven researchers evaluated 2,922 short-term, acute care, and non-federal United States hospitals in five categories, and Lawrence Memorial Hospital was one of twenty winners in the medium community hospitals category (100-249 beds), and the only hospital in Kansas and Missouri named among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert J. Schumm, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby recognize Lawrence Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, medical staff, associates, volunteers, donors, and leaders for their dedication, service, and support in achieving the 100 Top Hospitals 2013 Award.
